Endorsed by the Society for European Affairs Professionals (
www.seap.be), this event will exceed your expectations and contribute greatly to helping you better understand the European decision-making procedures and the practical realities of representing and defending your interests in Brussels. The workshop is run over a day and a 1/2 and is facilitated by Russell Patten, Chief Executive of
Grayling Global in Brussels.
Update - Bill Newton Dunn, MEP, Derek Taylor, Energy Advisor, DG TREN, European Commission, Sara Tesorieri, Brussels Director of NGO Crisis Action and Christopher White, Publisher of EU Reporter confirm their participation at this workshop. The workshop is based around four core elements:
- the EU institutional landscape
- the relations between these institutions
- the decision-making processes
- the ways to work and influence the system
Day 1 explores the more theoretical aspects of lobbying, focussing upon the key co-decision procedure and lobbying best practice. Supporting these elements are real-life case studies which illustrate the processes and practical realities. A lobbying methodology provided to delegates presents a framework within which the practical sessions are delivered on day 2.
Day 2 affords delegates the opportunity to put into practice the theory and knowledge they have gained through the use of an informal, enjoyable and highly effective lobbying simulation exercise. Day 2 sessions also include a discussion with a member of the EU institutions about the practicalities of lobbying in the 2008-2009 political climate. Day 2 finishes at 4.00 PM.
Places are limited to 40 per workshop and demand is high. The early bird deadline is the 22nd of September, however places do go very quickly. In addition, there are discounts for non-profit organisations and for those organisations sending group delegations.
The workshop is facilitated by Mr. Russell Patten, Chief Executive of Grayling Global in Brussels. Mr Patten is also a former President of the British Chamber of Commerce in Belgium.
